About "Rights Back Right Now"
“Rights Back Right Now” was written in response to the overturn of Roe V. Wade on June 24, 2022. In the wake of this monumental Supreme Court decision affecting women’s rights across the country, our collective for women in music, Gritty In Pink, threw together an emergency protest concert on a flatbed truck outside the US Courthouse in DTLA. Our rally was widely covered on TV and in the press including CBS News, Fox News, and LA Weekly. These events inspired the song, whose sound is deeply influenced by other political artists including Le Tigre and Grandson. The goal was to mix a fun, dancey, victorious, and high-energy vibe with the resistance power of a fight song.
